A Day to Remember with Joy

One year ago today - March 11, 2007 - Turtle was lonely and without any good idea for resolving it. After church he went out with family and friends to Sweet Tomatoes for lunch. Over the meal a friend described a website called Sovereign Grace Singles and recommended it to Turtle. About 2:30 that afternoon he found the web site and decided to sign up.

The same afternoon Rose was puttering around on her computer, answering mail from friends on regular e-mail and Sovereign Grace Singles. Following her usual habit, she surfed the new members to see if there were any who were over fifty, lived near her, or were teachers; any who fit those categories received a "welcome to the site" note. Most usually she would write, they would answer, she would write back, and that was the end of the correspondence. For those of you who don't understand "senior dating," men her age want to be with women ten to fifteen years younger than themselves, and those who desire someone her age are at the point of wanting a combination of companion and nurse. BUT GOD . . . how often in the Word do we see that phrase . . . “but God” had something amazing in store for her that day.

Rose sent her greeting to Turtle. Turtle answered back, but not only did he answer her mail more than once, he began to share his life and himself with her across the cyber-waves. Each mail drew them together in new ways, and their friendship quickly grew into more than either of them expected or dared to hope.

Here we are one year later (with an extra leap year day thrown in), and we can tell you it has been the most wonderful year of growth, adventure, and love. How blessed we are that our Sovereign Heavenly Father by His most kind providence uses even computers to achieve His glorious purposes in our lives. Thank you, Turtle, for 366 awesome days of discovery. I love you. Thank you, Rose, for the same . . . but I love you more!
